Daniel Kok

Daniel Kok read BA (Honours) Fine Art & Critical Theory at Goldsmiths College (London).

In 2012, Daniel received a MA (Distinction) in Solo-Dance-Authorship (SODA) at the Inter-University Centre for Dance (HZT, Berlin).

In 2014, he completed the Advanced Performance and Scenography Studies (A.PASS) in Brussels.

In 2008, he was the laureate of the Young Artist Award from National Arts Council (Singapore).

His creation “Q&A” (2009), commissioned by Singapore Arts Festival, has also performed in Edinburgh, Lisbon, Hong Kong, Berlin, Vienna, Bangkok, Yokohama, Seoul and Moscow.

“The Gay Romeo” (2011), selected as Priority Company for the Aerowaves European Network, has performed in Berlin, Tokyo, Ljubljana, Moscow, Bruges and Singapore.

“Cheerleader of Europe” (2014), supported by Nadine, workspacebrussels and PACT Zollverein, has performed in Zurich, Brussels, Berlin, Burkina Faso and the [8:Tension] platform of the ImpulsTanz festival in Vienna.

PIIGS” is a cheerleading team performance, co-produced by Nationales Performance Netz (Germany), Maxim Gorki Theater (Berlin), and workspacebrussels within the Life Long Burning cultural initiative of the European Union.

An avid pole dancer, he won the SG Pole Challenge 2012 and represented Singapore at the International Pole Championships 2013 (finalist). His contemporary pole dance creation was presented as part of “X-Choreografen” (2012) in the Tanz Im August / TanzNacht festivals in Berlin.

In 2014, he collaborated with Arco Renz (Belgium) and Eisa Jocson (Philippines) to create pole duet “ALPHA”, co-produced by Esplanade (Singapore), Kobalt Works (Belgium) and Goethe Institut.

His present research involves ropes and looks further into questions of relationality and audienceship. “Bunny” is a collaboration with Luke George (Australia), co-produced by The Substation (Singapore) and Campbelltown Arts Centre (Sydney), with support from Playking Foundation (Australia), Abrons Arts Center (New York City), National Arts Council (Singapore) and the Singapore International Foundation.
