KRISIS is a performance developed with six graduate students of the ISI Padangpanjang (National Indonesian Performing Art School), West-Sumatra, the heartland of Minangkabau culture.
The title KRISIS is the Indonesian translation of “crisis”. The performance investigates the constructive, creative aspects of “crisis”, a potentially beneficial instability that triggers change, the invention of the new and a form of individual passage.
Pencak Silat is an important element of these young dancers’ cultural and artistic background. During the creative process, the dancers are confronted with unexpected physical situations that make personal and collective choices necessary in order to destabilize, to change and to evolve. …
