Anke Loh’s work has had international appeal since studying at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium in 1999. Her collections have been featured in international runway shows and showrooms including New York’s Fashion Week, Paris’ Centre Pompidou, Japan’s Osaka Collection Show, and Mode Expo Antwerp, Belgium. Her artistic projects—including Urban Identities, Aloft: Fearless Fashion, and Dressing Light—have attracted international media attention and recognition including being honored as a Laureate at the Festival International des Arts et de la Mode in Hyères, France.
INTERDISCIPLINARY EXPLORATION
Anke Loh forges collaborative relationships with a diverse array of individuals, interdisciplinary teams, companies and universities with the objective of blending fashion with the latest technological advances. Through ongoing residencies, grants and invitations to speak at conferences, Anke has strengthened her scholarly foundation
and enabled connections and collaborations with artists and scientists to pursue further research toward her interests.
Anke’s recent focus has been on incorporating fiber optics into fabric. She collaborated with Luminex (Italy and Miami) to develop optical fiber garments. She broke new ground by integrating Philips Lumalive panels into dresses and skirts which featured video imagery on soft embedded LED screens.
Anke is presently collaborating with Fraunhofer Institute in Berlin to research and explore the possibilities of stretchable circuitry.
EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
Anke Loh is presently a practicing fashion designer and Chair and Associate Professor of the Fashion Department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where she has worked since 2005. Anke studied fashion at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, earning an MFA in 1999, after which she started her former company, Rosso NV.
